All directcover Home and Contents Insurance policies include these special benefits:
- Cost of alternative accommodation during the repair or rebuilding of your home following a loss.
- Electronic equipment – such as computers, TVs, videos and sound systems are covered up to $20,000 per item.
- Paintings, tapestries and other works of art are covered up to $20,000 per item.
- Up to $5,000 cover for tools and instruments used in earning an income while at home ($500 limit applies to Protect Essentials Plus Home Insurance).
- Up to $500 to replace frozen foodstuffs if your domestic freezer fails to operate. (Does not apply to Protect Essentials Plus Home Insurance. There is no limit on frozen foodstuffs to the Protect Accidental Damage Home Insurance).
- Automatic indexing of your sum insured to cover the effects of inflation.

How do I make a home insurance claim?

What you must do when you make a claim
A. You must make your claim as soon as possible after you suffer a loss. If you do not make your claim within 30 days, we may reduce what we pay you by an amount to take account of any disadvantages we suffer by the delay.
B. You must also:
- Take all reasonable steps to stop any further loss from occurring.
- Advise the nearest police station if your property is lost or stolen, vandalised or maliciously damaged. We may ask you to give us a written report from the police.
- Keep the property that has been damaged so that we can inspect it.
- Tell us about any prosecution or inquest that may be held.
- Send us any document relating to your claim within 72 hours of you receiving the document.
What you must not do when you make a claim
A. You must not repair or replace any damaged property without our consent.
B. Do not pay, promise to pay, or offer payment, or admit responsibility for a claim.
